Washrooms and Beyond, India’s first washroom magazine has come up with the idea of an all India design competition – the first-ever in India to focus only on the fraternity of MEP consultants, in 2021.
Stiebel Eltron India Pvt. Ltd., a leading manufacturer of home comforts and renewables technology, is the presenting sponsor for the first edition of the Behind the Walls – A Technical Design Challenge.
Covering pan India – divided into 4 zones, the competition is meant for MEP consultants. The first edition in 2021 is going to follow a phygital format with the zonal leg being held digitally – culminating into an on-ground Grand Finale on January 21, 2022 in Mumbai.
THE CATEGORIES
Mechanical, electrical and plumbing consultants working with MEP firms or having independent firms are invited to compete for the ‘Behind the Walls' – A Technical Design Challenge in the following category:

THE JURY
The entries will be judged by a jury of eminent MEP consultants and architects across India.
The zonal jurors will decide on the zonal winners.
The zonal winners will compete in the Grand Finale, which will be judged by a panel of national jury.
THE PROCESS
Registrations open: October 19, 2021
Submission Close: December 31, 2021

On registration, the participant will be allotted a user id with a password and participants can upload the designs by logging in with the same.
2.
The submission will be in the form of a single PDF which could include a maximum of 12 slides in 4:3 ratio (25.4 CM width x 19.05 CM height) and the total size of the PDF should not exceed 16 MB.

The submission should include a design basis report (DBR), conceptual drawings in 300 DPI and notes on innovations, water efficiency, energy efficiency, serviceability and safety measures.

The entries will be judged by the zonal jury of eminent MEP Consultants and architects.
5.
The zonal winners across the four zones will compete nationally in the Grand Finale.

The zonal winners will present their designs to the national jury on a one to one basis. This will be followed by the announcement of national winners during the felicitation ceremony.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
- The submissions for the participant’s entry will be maximum of 12 slides /pages in 4:3 ratio (25.4 cm width x 19.05 cm height). All these slides must be put together in a single PDF (not exceeding 15 mb) and uploaded on the software. This PDF should include :
- Design Basis Report covering inputs on plumbing, mechanical, electrical, fire
- Conceptual Drawings – up to 5 drawings which will best illustrate the scheme
- Note on Innovations, Water Efficiency, Energy Efficiency, Serviceability and Safety measures
- The font size for texts must be minimum 12 point.
- The participants must not include any information related to them (like name, mobile number, company name etc) or any watermark in the design and the PDF being submitted. Such design is liable to be summarily rejected.
- Only one entry per participant is allowed.
- Entries once submitted cannot be cancelled or withdrawn.
THE GRAND FINALE
The zonal winners from each zone will be hosted in Mumbai for the Grand Finale.
The Jury members will also be hosted in Mumbai for the Grand Finale.
The zonal winners will then give a one to one presentation to the national jury.
After the presentations by the zonal winners, national winner, runner up and second runner up will be announced and felicitated at the Grand Finale.

The Zonal Winners will be given a certificate and a plaque.
Please note: A TDS of 30% will be deducted on prize money as per statutory guidelines.
TERMS AND CONDITION
- Entries must be submitted by individuals, who are MEP Consultants from India. If an organisation/ MEP consultants’ firm chooses to apply, they must nominate an individual.
- In case the information contained in the Registration form is found to be incorrect, false or incomplete, the form is liable to be summarily rejected.
- The entries submitted will be the property Gnosis Services Pvt. Ltd. (parent company of Washrooms and Beyond) and they would use the same for editorial purpose.
- The participants must not include any information related to them (like name, mobile number, company name etc.) or any watermark in the design and the PDF being submitted. Such design is liable to be summarily rejected.
- Designs will be uploaded only after the registration for Behind the Walls - A Technical Design Challenge.
- Last date for submitting entries is 30th November 2021
- By submitting an entry, the participant acknowledges and agrees to their personal information being a part Gnosis Services Pvt. Ltd. & Stiebel Eltron India Pvt Ltd’s (the principal sponsor) database. These details shall be used for sending commercial information.
- It is explicitly agreed and understood that entries once submitted cannot be cancelled or withdrawn.
- The decision of the jury shall be final.
- Jury Members, employees of Stiebel Eltron India Pvt. Ltd. and Gnosis Services Pvt. Ltd. and others directly or indirectly associated with the initiative will not be eligible to participate in the competition.
- Offline submission through hard copies will not be accepted.
- Dates and venue of the felicitation event mentioned is subject to change.
- Gnosis Services Pvt. Ltd. reserves the right to alter, modify or withdraw the competition.
ABOUT GNOSIS
Gnosis Services Pvt Ltd, founded in 2010, is a Mumbai-based Publishing House. The company focuses primarily on trade publications and events related to the same.
Publications
The flagship publication ‘Washrooms and Beyond’ is the company’s first publication and goes out to architects, designers, plumbing consultants, builders, hospitality professionals and others from the building materials industry.
Subsequently, Gnosis launched 3 more magazines each targeting a niche segment i.e. Urban Sanitation (2012), Kitchen Ideas (2013) and Light Works (2019).
Events
In 2011, the company celebrated the first anniversary of the magazine with Wb. Honours 2011, an initiative to recognise and felicitate individuals and institutions who have contributed significantly to the washroom industry.
In 2014, the company made its presence felt in tier II and III cities across the country in a more brick and mortar manner with – Washroom and Kitchen Seminars.
The same year the company also started its annual thought platform on design and architecture - Design Dialogues. It saw eminent speakers and design professionals from across India and abroad, come together to address design issues.
In 2015, Gnosis initiated an annual day-long seminar- ‘Smart Green Sanitation for Smart Green Cities’ and an event to felicitate good works in the field of sanitation ‘Urban Sanitation Hurrah!’. The event was supported by Ministry of Urban Development and other associations.
In 2019, Gnosis initiated a first-of-its-kind Round Table – Smart Kitchens, bringing designers, consumers and appliance makers under the same roof.
With an aim to provide a platform for designers and plumbing consultants to come together, Plumbing & Design was initiated in 2020.
Design Competitions
In 2017, the company also initiated an all India washroom design competition – Wb. Washroom Design Challenge, for practicing architects and interior designers and the following year a separate washroom design challenge for students of architecture and interior design challenge was conducted.
Gnosis also has conducted a Kitchen design challenge for architects and interior designers – Kitchen Ideas Design Challenge, in 2021.
